Replacing a former derelict industrial warehouse in West Drayton, DAPA gained planning approval for 44 affordable apartments on a 0.178H site, achieving a high density of 247 DPH. Designed in accordance with the London Design Guide, each apartment has a private balcony and share access to a communal amenity deck and roof garden. The proposed palette of materials reflects not only the pragmatic requirements of social housing for a robust, easily maintained building that will age gracefully, but are also compatible in terms of colour, tactile quality, and natural variations within the local area. On the site of a derelict industrial warehouse we have proposed 44 affordable apartments designed in accordance with the London Design Guide. The proposed palette of materials reflects not only the pragmatic requirements of a social housing apartment building; a robust, easily maintained building that will age gracefully. It also takes into considering the local area and reflects this in colour and tactile quality in material choice.
